At GRPShield Plymouth, we recently completed the full reconstruction and waterproofing of an under-deck storage room for a homeowner in Plymouth.

The existing structure had reached the end of its lifespan and no longer provided reliable protection from the elements. Our objective was to create a clean, durable and low-maintenance storage area capable of withstanding the South West climate for years to come.

Before the Project

The original storage room showed significant signs of deterioration and required a complete rebuild. Following an inspection, we recommended full reconstruction to provide a long-term solution rather than temporary repairs.

This project presented a particular challenge as previous attempts to resolve the issues had not delivered a lasting solution. The homeowner had already invested in repair works on two separate occasions, yet ongoing problems remained and the storage area continued to deteriorate.

Following a thorough assessment, we recommended a complete reconstruction and waterproofing solution designed to address the underlying issues rather than applying further short-term repairs.

Removal & Site Preparation

The existing storage room was carefully dismantled and removed before all old materials were cleared away. This allowed us to prepare the area properly and create a solid foundation for the new structure.

New Timber Frame Construction & Waterproofing & GRP Installation

Following the removal of the existing structure, a new timber frame was constructed beneath the deck to create a strong and durable foundation for the storage room.

New OSB boarding was installed throughout the walls, ceiling and floor structure before all internal surfaces were prepared and sealed to improve moisture resistance and long-term durability.

To provide a reliable waterproof solution, we installed a seamless GRP fibreglass roofing system using fibreglass matting and resin. The roof was then finished with a durable topcoat, creating a fully waterproof and UV-resistant surface designed to withstand the South West climate.

Internal surfaces were completed using protective resin coatings, while an anti-slip floor finish was applied to improve safety, durability and ease of maintenance.

The Finished Result

The completed storage room now provides a clean, practical and fully weatherproof space that can be used confidently throughout the year.

By taking a comprehensive approach to the reconstruction and waterproofing works, we were able to provide a long-term solution after previous repair attempts had failed to resolve the underlying issues.

The finished structure delivers excellent durability, low maintenance requirements and reliable protection from the elements for years to come.
